Anyone hear of anything going in at the old Faxon Lumber?
What about Bonanza? I initially heard the owner sold it to someone wanting to build apartments for gas-holes, but there it sits. I understand if the owner wanted out of the restaurant business, but sell it to someone who will keep it running - Bonanza was a busy, viable business - sad that it sits there like that.

Yep. By the looks of it I think there are gas-holes living in the building. I wouldn't doubt it; the owner - whoever he may be - probably threw in some cots and said there ya go. There was a for sale sign out in front for a really short time right around the time the restaurant was closing, but it soon disappeared. So the restaurant owner either sold it under the table or through a realtor secretly and just had them put the sign out to make it look good, or he maintains ownership and found he can make a shitload more money by letting gas workers live in the building. Who knows for sure, but no matter what the case it's a damn shame they closed the place and fired all the workers there.

I'm fairly sure the one is New Columbia is owned by the same owner. That's surprising, I thought they were always fairly busy.

Just what this area needs... another hotel. You see what's going in where Faxon Lumber was? Hilton Towers. Like we need another hotel. What they need to do is make apartments and other housing available to either gas-holes who are here long-term or for folks who have been evicted or couldn't renew a lease in favor of the landlord wanting to cash in on gas-holes. Hotels are not meant for these extremely long-term stays. Plus having all of our hotels booked solid like they are screws folks who need to get rooms - such as bridal parties, class reunions, funerals, regular business travelers, sales reps, etc. It used to be if your kid was getting married you could call any of the local hotels and arrange for them to reserve a block of rooms for your out-of-town guests; then when the guests call to make reservations they ask for rooms under the "Smith/Johnson" bridal party or whatever. I know a lady who wanted to do that recently and had one hell of a time finding accommodations for her guests. I think she wound up putting several out-of-towners up in her own home. It's great something is going in there at Faxon, but a hotel?? Come on.

That Denny's is going to look sooooooo classy sitting there next to/in front of this new palace they are going to build too. I wonder if they are going to try to relocate Denny's.
